How to maximize your water conservation

It’s no secret. California is in a severe drought. With no end in sight, all of us are being urged to find new ways of consuming water.

Here’s what you can do:

Wash full loads.

When using your dishwasher or washing machine, make sure your machine is at maximum capacity. This will save water – and electricity!

Rinse your razor.

Instead of rinsing your razor under running water, fill your sink up with a small amount of water. While saving your face, you can rinse your razor off without wasting as much water.

Turn the water off.

When brushing your teeth, rinse your toothbrush and then turn the water off. Use a cup of water to rinse your mouth out.

Take shorter showers.

You can still enjoy your morning shower, but cut your shower to five minutes or less. This gives you adequate time to bathe without wasting valuable water.

Soak pots and pans.

If you have food stuck on your pots and pans, let them soak in water instead of running them under the faucet.

Keep water in your refrigerator.

It takes time to get tap water to cool down to a drinkable temperature. Instead, keep cold drinking water in your refrigerator.

Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water.

When you’re done rinsing off your fruits and veggies, use the water for your plants.
