Thanks to a federal grant, Moulton Niguel Water District customers will soon be able to cash in for conserving water.
The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded Moulton Niguel $400,000 in matching federal grants for conservation programs designed for Moulton Niguel customers. The 2021 grant is the third federal grant awarded to the District. In total, Moulton Niguel has received about $2.5 million in federal funding for water efficiency projects and programs in recent years.
“We’re proactively pursuing federal grants to stretch our ratepayers’ dollars even further,” said Moulton Niguel President Brian S. Probolsky.
The District was one of just 55 projects in the entire country to receive funding from the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grant Program during this cycle, the grant program helps communities conserve water.
With the federal matching grant, Moulton Niguel has been able to increase its water conservation rebates. The District is now offering customers $4 for every square foot of grass that is replaced with drought-friendly landscaping. Now twice the previous incentive rate, the average customer could see $3,300 in rebates under the enhanced rebate program.
“Our customers work hard for their money,” said Moulton Niguel Vice President Duane D. Cave. “By pursuing federal matching grants, we’re able to offer water resiliency programs that help customers save money and water.”
