Municipal Information System Association of CA honors Western Municipal Water with two awards

Western Municipal Water District’s (WMWD) IT Department was recently earned top honors from the Municipal Information System Association of California (MISAC), receiving the prestigious Excellence in IT Practices Award. WMWD’s Director of Administration Greg Duecker was bestowed MISAC’s President’s Award.

The Excellence in IT Practices Award distinguishes and honors outstanding governance and operation practices. The rigorous application process requires a detailed questionnaire that examines the applicant’s practices across 10 different subject areas. Out of MISAC’ more than 300 cities and special districts less than 20 organizations received the Excellence honor statewide. This most recent IT Practices Award marks the sixth time since 2008 that WMWD’s IT Department has received this award.

“Western’s IT Department is a very lean and high performing team, and we are pleased that they were recognized for their hard work and high-level of commitment to outstanding governance, operational practices and contributions in the field of information technology,” said Western’s General Manager John Rossi. “Setting the bar in IT as only a handful of public-sector entities to receive this award is one of the many reasons why Western is an IE Top Workplace.”

Western’s Director of Administration Greg Duecker was honored with MDSAC’s distinguished President’s Award for his more than 15 years of involvement and leadership in MISAC. The award also recognized Duecker’s successful career in Information Technology.

“I have a passion for helping others and working in the public sector, and when I come to work the highest priority is providing benefit for not only Western’s customers but also our internal team,” said Duecker. “I am so honored to accept this award from MISAC, an organization which has truly helped me advance my leadership skills in the profession.”

The MISAC’s President’s Award an individual or organization that has shown an outstanding contribution to MISAC or the information technology field. With more than 30 years of experience implementing strategic information systems, projects, initiatives and programs, Duecker is known as an exception public sector leader. His professional acumen and success include a commitment to mentorship and leadership at WMWD, policy and procedure development and his leadership and strategic IT master planning. In his current position with WMWD, Duecker oversees the Administration, Communications and IT departments.

Founded in 1980 MISAC seeks to strives to promote leadership, education and access to resources for public sector technology professionals in order to enhance local government services and effectiveness, member resources, relationships and advocacy.
