Cal Water receives approval to acquire Preserve at Millerton Water, Wastewater Systems

More than two years after the agreement was signed, California Water Service received approval from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to acquire the water and wastewater systems serving the Preserve at Millerton.

“We appreciate the diligence by the CPUC in reviewing this transaction and look forward to serving the residents and businesses at the Preserve at Millerton,” said Group President and Chief Executive Officer Martin A. Kropelnicki. “We also look forward to watching this region grow and thrive, and providing the same quality, service, and value that we are committed to delivering to all of our customers in California.”

Located one mile northwest of the town of Friant in rural Madera County, The Preserve at Millerton is a 1,400-unit master-planned, mixed-use community. A 50,000 Gallon Per Day (GPD) immersed Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant serves The Preserve’s first phase of 243 dwelling units. The wastewater treatment plant includes fine screening, equalization, activated sludge treatment with an anoxic zone, ultrafiltration, ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection, post-UV chlorine dosing and sludge storage.

The purchase is expected to close when residences are ready to be occupied in 2022.
