Cheng Appointed Vice President of the State Water Contractors Board

Assistant General Manager Robert Cheng of Coachella Valley Water District has been appointed to the State Water Contractors (SWC) Board of Officers. Cheng was appointed during the board’s recent annual meeting. The offices are held for one year.

“I am honored to have been appointed vice-president of the SWC, and I want to thank my fellow Board members for their vote of confidence,” said Cheng. “The SWC is well-positioned to lead our State Water Project contractors in legal, policy, and regulatory interests with the ultimate goal of providing a reliable and sustainable source of water to the residents and farmlands across this state. This organization provides a valuable interface with the Department of Water Resources in helping to address challenges facing this valuable water infrastructure.”

The State Water Contractors Association advocates on behalf of its members for improved supply reliability and water quality based on sensible, science-based policies related to the State Water Project that result in sustainable and cost-effective management of the SWP for California’s residents, economy and environment.

Cheng has been on the SWC Board since 2018 and is the Assistant General Manager of Coachella Valley Water District since 2013.

The State Water Contractors (SWC) is a non-profit association of 27 of public water agencies, working together to provide clean drinking water to more than 27 million residents and 750,000 acres of farmland throughout the state. The SWC represents the legal, policy and regulatory interests of the State Water Project contractors, who are responsible for the capital and operations and maintenance costs of the SWP. The association works in partnership with other water organizations, and coordinates with Department of Water Resources on behalf of its members.

Coachella Valley Water District is a public agency governed by a five-member board of treatment and reclamation services, regional storm water protection, groundwater management and water conservation. It serves approximately 108,000 residential and business customers across 1,000 square miles, located primarily in Riverside County, but also in portions of Imperial and San Diego counties.
