East Valley WD celebrates Sterling Natural Resource Center project milestone

Construction on the Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC) continues to progress as East Valley Water District recently celebrated the placement of the highest beam on the project. The SNRC is being built by East Valley to treat wastewater that will provide a new source of water for the region’s groundwater basin and support the area’s continued economic development.

“The District reached a significant milestone with the tallest element of the project now set in place”, said Chairman David Smith. “The beam is a symbol of the thousands of pages of architecture drawings, hundreds of truck deliveries and many months of hard work and partnership needed to get us to this moment.”

Construction completed so far includes the structural framework of the administrative center, water screening facility and digester tanks.

“The progress made on the SNRC would not have been made possible without the support and hard work of Team Sterling and the partnership of the leaders within the industry”, said John Mura, General Manager/CEO. “What started as an idea and an empty lot, is now one beam closer to the District providing an essential service for our customers and region.”

According to East Valley, the entire wastewater treatment process will be comprised of multiple systems and functions used to filter debris, remove particles, and disinfect the water before recharging the region’s groundwater aquifer.

When finished, SNRC will be able to treat 8 million gallons of wastewater per day and has been designed to enhance the neighborhood with spaces to invite the community to learn and grow. The finished site will include a demonstration garden, picnic area and locations for workshops and special events.

The SNRC is scheduled to be fully operational in Spring 2022. For information about East Valley Water District and the Sterling Natural Resource Center, visit eastvalley.org/SNRC.
