Western Municipal Water District Hosting Residential Water-Wise Landscaping Contest

Western Municipal Water District (WMWD) is hosting its biennial (even years) Water-Wise Landscaping Contest for urban residential landscapes. WMWD began the contest in 2008 in an effort to promote water efficient landscaping and to obtain photographs of beautiful water efficient landscapes to inspire homeowners.

Whereas the first contest covered only Riverside and the unincorporated area of Woodcrest, each year more water agencies participated in the contest. Today the contest covers all of western Riverside and San Bernardino counties encompassing the Inland Empire.  It is now sponsored by a consortium of water agencies and related businesses within the Inland Empire.

Three regional awards are available for residential landscapes and up to one sponsor award per sponsoring water agency will be awarded. The awards include:

  • $1,000 Regional 1stPlace
  • $800 Regional 2ndPlace
  • $600 Regional 3rdPlace
  • $500 Sponsoring Water Agency Awards

Entries must demonstrate that front yard residential established landscapes must demonstrate an attractive use of water-wise landscaping, water use efficiency and good maintenance practices. Entries must include three photos of the landscaping. Winning entry participants agree to post a provided sign in their front yard indicating they are a contest winner and winners also agree to their landscape being featured in a landscape contest winner tour. Entry images become the property of the sponsoring water agencies and may be used in the future for marketing activities and collateral. Entries are being accepted from within the geographic area of eligibility (see listing below.)

A judging panel will include sponsors and landscape architects and the decisions of the judges are final.  The judging panel reserves the right not to issue an award for any category that receives insufficient or unsuitable entries.  The panel will judge entry photos in June and all contestants will be notified of the winners by June 30. Entries are being accepted through May 31, 2016

Water agency employees and sponsors within the contest boundaries, and their families, are not eligible to enter the contest. Official contest rules include are available at: http://www.inlandempirelandscapecontest.com/rules/
