Eastern Municipal Water District board member honored at National Water Resources conference

Ronald Sullivan, an Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) board member, was honored earlier this month for his leadership and commitment toward strengthening the National Water Resources Association (NWRA). He was recognized and received the award at the NWRA’s 85th annual conference in San Diego. Sullivan represents the Menifee and Perris areas on the EMWD’s board of directors.

“I am incredibly honored to be recognized by the NWRA,” Sullivan said. “This organization has worked for 85 years to secure a better water supply future for millions, and I am humbled to have played a role in the important work that the NWRA has done.”

The National Water Resources Association is a strong federation of state associations and caucuses representing a broad spectrum of water supply interests. It is the oldest and most active national association concerned with water resources policy and development.

Sullivan has been an active participant in NWRA. He was the only representative from a Southwest state to testify in April 2015 on behalf of NWRA to a Congressional subcommittee regarding proposed rule changes that would have redefined the waters of the United States.

Sullivan also participated in a United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources roundtable discussion about the water-energy nexus in 2013. EMWD was one of two public agencies nationally – and the only one in California – invited to participate in the discussion. The roundtable focused on establishing federal leadership goals related to water and energy uses.

“This award is the culmination of the years of hard work that Director Sullivan has done on behalf of those whom he represents,” EMWD General Manager Paul Jones said. “He is an active and respected voice on federal policy issues throughout the country and this honor is well-deserved.”
