The Chino Basin Water Conservation District (CBWCD) is now accepting applications for college scholarship program and invites full-time high school seniors and college students pursuing water-related studies to apply for college scholarships of up to $5,000. Scholarships will be awarded to qualified students who demonstrate commitment and passion for water conservation within their chosen field of study.
Applications are being accepted through April 30, 2017 and applicants must meet all eligibility requirements to qualify. The eligibility requirements include proof of permanent residency within CBWCD’s boundaries which includes the cities of Montclair, Chino, Ontario, Upland, and portions of Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills.
“We’re looking for students with big dreams eager to protect our most precious resource,” said Director Margaret Hamilton, the chair of CBWCD’s Education Committee. “Each year, we are impressed with the creativity and passion that our scholarship recipients bring to their studies and to the practice of water conservation. Through this program, we hope to strengthen the water conservation workforce in our region.”
Students who are awarded CBWCD scholarships must volunteer for at least 20 hours at CBWCD within a year after receiving their grant. Funding for future scholarships may be impacted if the volunteer hours are not completed within the one-year period.
The total of scholarships awarded will be based on the number of applications received and the quality and attributes of each application. Scholarships will be disbursed over a one year period. Student finalists will be selected based on the overall strength of their application. These scholarship recipients are pursuing degrees in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Civil Engineering and Molecular Environmental Biology.
Applications must be postmarked by April 30, 2017 or delivered in person at the CBWCD office at 4594 San Bernardino St., Montclair, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. For specific questions contact district staff at 909-626-2711.
Staff members and directors of the CBWCD Education Committee will interview each finalist and make recommendations to the district’s Board of Directors. The Board will determine final selection of recipients at its July board Meeting and winners will be announced in August.
