Inland Valley agencies offering free water education workshop for teachers for hands-on curriculum

Inland Empire Utilities Agency, along with other water agencies and cities in the Inland Valley, are partnering to host a one-day, free water education workshop for area teachers.  The workshop features the Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) curriculum and is a mandatory workshop for those teachers and schools interested in applying for the 2017-2018 Garden in Every School Program® Mini-Grant Program.

Project WET is an award-winning, non-profit water education program and publisher. Its activities engage students with hands-on, interdisciplinary lessons that teach important concepts about water. In addition, the workshop will include:

  • An environmental, hands-on education curriculum
  • The Project WET curriculum and activity guide
  • Information on the Garden in Every School Program® and mini-grant qualifications

Whereas the Project WET curriculum is a stand-alone program, teachers/schools interested in applying for the 2017-2018 Garden in Every School Program® mini-grant program must attend this mandatory workshop.  To be eligible for the upcoming mini-grants, schools must have gardens currently installed by previous participation in the Garden in Every School Program®. More than 50 public and private schools have participated in the garden program since 2004.

In addition to the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, partnering agencies include: Cucamonga Valley Water District, Fontana Water Company, Monte Vista Water District, Ontario Municipal Utilities Company along with the cities of Chino, Chino Hills and Upland.

The workshop includes both a continental breakfast and lunch. In addition, reimbursements for substitute teachers may be available. Additional information regarding the Garden in Every School Program® can be found at: https://www.ieua.org/education/garden-in-every-school/.

The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, March 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, Building B, Event Room at 6075 Kimball Avenue in Chino. For further information on Project WET, the Garden in Every School Program®, possible substitute reimbursements and to register, contact Andrea Carruthers at 909-993-1935 or [email protected].  RSVPs are required by Thursday, Feb. 23.
