San Clemente-based SnowPure Water Technologies, who makes and sells industrial and medical water purification technologies for the $5 billion global ultrapure market, was honored earlier this week with the prestigious U.S. Presidential “E” Award. SnowPure received the award for the increase of its exports from 80% in 2013 to 95% in 2016.
The U.S. Presidential “E” Award was conceived by President John F. Kennedy in 1961. The award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. It is given to only a few select companies nationwide. The primary criterion for the President’s “E” Award for Exports is four years of successive export growth, usually accompanied by a rising percentage of export sales within total sales.
SnowPure’s products are key components of an ultrapure water systems. The membrane-based, cutting-edge purification technologies are used in pharmaceutical, hemodialysis and semiconductor systems as well as in power generation industries. While SnowPure initially began exporting to three countries; SnowPure’s technologies are now being sold in 55 countries. Their rapid expansion is what led the U.S. Department of Commerce to nominate and award them with this prize.
SnowPure President Michael Snow and Jennifer Nargizian, the company’s manager of customer service received the award from Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in Washington DC. SnowPure is a privately-held small business. They work closely with original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in helping to optimize systems design and performance. SnowPure sells only to carefully selected and qualified OEMs.
“We are very grateful to the worldwide U.S. Commercial Service professionals who were instrumental in helping us to export so successfully,” said Snow. “Exporting is our focus. So much of the developing industrial world looks for environmentally-friendly American-made technology.”
U.S. exports totaled $2.21 trillion in 2016, accounting for nearly 12 percent of U.S. gross domestic product. Exports supported an estimated 11.5 million jobs nationwide in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the International Trade Administration.
