Santa Clara Valley Water District to award $100,000 in grants for water conservation programs

As part of the 15-year Safe, Clean Water and Natural Flood Protection Program, the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) will be awarding up to $100,000 in grants for testing new and innovative water conservation programs and technologies. The program was approved by voters in 2012. SCVWD anticipates distributing upwards of $35 million in grants, partnerships and rebate programs during the life of the program.

Each year the district identifies one or more grant programs, within several different funding categories, for a new funding cycle. This year’s primary goal is to identify potential water-saving devices and strategies that can assist the district in meeting its long-term goal of saving more than 32 billion gallons of water per year by 2030. SCVWD manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, three water treatment plants, some 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 275 miles of streams on behalf of nearly 1.9 million residents.

The upcoming grant cycle is the fifth of several planned rounds of funding for conservation programs and technologies grants. Specifics regarding the application process are available at: www.valleywater.org/grants.aspx. Questions regarding this request for grant proposals should be directed to Jerry De La Piedra at 408-630-2257 or [email protected].

Public, private, and nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply. The maximum grant amount is $50,000; the minimum grant amount is $5,000. Proposals are due on Nov. 30, 2017 and all projects must be completed by June 30, 2020.

In addition to this grant funding, SCVWD has several other open grant application processes related to creek cleanup, education, outreach, watershed stewardship, trails, open space and wildlife habitat restoration. To learn more, go to: http://www.valleywater.org/EkContent.aspx?id=15774.
