The Bureau of Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region announced earlier this week the appointment of Mario Manzo as the new Deputy Manager for the Mid-Pacific Region’s Bay Delta Office. Manzo assumed his new role effective March 5.
Manzo’s new role will include providing support to the Bay-Delta Office Manager for activities that include implementation of biological opinions for the coordinated operations of the Central Valley Project and State Water Project, implementation of the Suisin Marsh Preservation Agreement as well as coordination and implementation actions required in the Reasonable and Prudent Alternatives in the Fish and Wildlife Service 2008 and National Marine Fisheries Service 2009 biological opinions. He will also support Reclamation activities associated with the California WaterFix and engagement with the Science Task Force and the Interagency Ecological Program. The Bay Delta Office also partners with other federal, state and local agencies; the environmental community; water and power stakeholders; the environmental community; and the public to address these urgent and emerging priorities.
A graduate of University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Manzo was first hired by Reclamation in 2005 as a repayment specialist in the Yuma, AZ office. Subsequently he joined the Mid-Pacific Region with positions as project manager in the Planning Division, Chief of the Contracts and Water Rights Branch and lead for the Water Management Goal for the San Joaquin River Restoration Program and. The San Joaquin River Restoration Program is a comprehensive long-term effort to restore flows to the San Joaquin River from Friant Dam to the confluence of Merced River and restore a self-sustaining Chinook salmon fishery in the river while reducing or avoiding adverse water supply impacts from Restoration Flows.
