In consideration of customers water needs during COVID-19, East Valley Water District (EVWD) has announced they will be temporarily expanding customers’ indoor water budget from 60 gallons per person, per day to 75 gal/p/day.
During the March 25 meeting, the Governing Board unanimously approved a temporary twenty- five percent increase for household’s Tier 1 (indoor) budget which took effect on April 1.
Chairman David Smith stated, “We know that our customers are spending more time at home
and we want to consider their increased water needs.” Smith added, “Health and safety is
our top priority. We encourage everyone to do their part by staying home, increasing hand
washing, and practice physical distancing.”
The temporary increase will provide each person with 15 additional gallons of water per day for essential use. (based on a household of 4 occupants) at the District’s lowest per unit cost of $1.83 for every hundred cubic foot, or 748 gallons, of water used.
The district also points out that “This is not an increase to water rates or the unit cost of water. Rates that were in effect as of December 2019 will remain in place.”
East Valley Water District was formed in 1954 and provides water and wastewater services to more than 100,000 residents within the City of Highland and portions of both the City and County of San Bernardino.
