Water Main Replacement Begins in Portola Valley

Cal Water has started an important water infrastructure upgrade in Portola Valley as part of its commitment to keeping critical infrastructure safe and reliable. The water main replacement project will ensure customers and firefighters continue to have the water they need for their everyday and emergency needs.

The project, which is expected to be completed this month, includes the installation of 777 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron water main on Westridge Drive, from Degas Road to 488 Westridge Drive. Crews will also install two new fire hydrants to improve access for firefighters.

“This important infrastructure upgrade is part of our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to Portola Valley residents, and it also ensures first responders can protect the community in an emergency,” said District Manager Dawn Smithson. “As essential service workers, our crews are committed to delivering a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water to our customers for their drinking, cooking, handwashing, and other household needs, both now and for years to come.”

Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Crews will also minimize any temporary service interruptions required so that residents have the water they need during this time. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting existing individual customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
