Rowland Water District is proud to announce that 11th grade students Danica Jew and Kelly Moc from Glen A. Wilson High School in Hacienda Heights have been named among the local winners of Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s (MWD) annual poster contest. The students’ artwork was selected from thousands of entries for inclusion in the 2021 MWD calendar, which features 36 winners from around the region. This year’s “Water is Life” calendar focuses on wise water use for the benefit all living things, and will be distributed to area schools and to members of the community in the coming weeks.
“Our goal is to get students thinking about the importance of water as our most valuable natural resource, and we are extremely impressed by the tremendous creativity our local students have displayed in this year’s contest,” says Brittnie Van De Car, Education & Community Outreach Coordinator for Rowland Water District. “All of these wonderful entries depict water being used wisely in the community, in recreation, at home, in the environment, and even offer new water saving ideas for the future.”
Students in grades K-12 submitted artwork through water agencies that are served by MWD. Jew’s poster depicts a sea nymph-like woman surrounded by fish and droplets of water in an ocean-like setting. Moc’s artwork is entitled “Help Save the World” and shows the earth as seen from space, with a stream of water spilling from its right side.
Both students received Amazon gift cards in recognition of their achievements. Additionally, their artwork will be featured on MWD outreach materials, and will appear on MWD’s website for a week.
