CVWD increases customer assistance program

Earlier this week, the Board of Directors for Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) voted to increase the amount of assistance available to customers through its Help2Others program.

The new guidelines allow eligible customers to apply for a $150 stipend through the assistance program once every 12 months beginning Aug. 1, 2021. The previous maximum stipend was $100.

CVWD’s Help2Others program is conducted in partnership with United Way of the Desert and is funded by non-rate revenue and donations. United Way screens applicants for the program who receive the credit on their water bill. Customers can reapply for the credit every 12 months.

Participation in the Help2Others program increased 120% in 2020, which is believed to be due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
