The 6th Annual Water Counts Academy, hosted by CV Water Counts, a collaborative of the Coachella Valley’s six water agencies, is currently underway.
The free program is open to locals who want a better understanding of how water in the desert works. It kicked off on Feb. 3 with a record 48 students and continues through March 3.
“With California in a drought, learning about water management and its role in helping the Coachella Valley flourish, is as important as ever,” said Michelle Tse, spokesperson for CV Water Counts, and Indio Water Authority’s Administrative Services Manager.
“We are excited to continue to offer this comprehensive course – virtually – in 2022 that will cover a variety of water-related topics.”
The virtual class meets once a week for 5 weeks. Each session includes experts in their field who talk about issues that affect local water, from water quality and regulations to groundwater and long-term sustainability.
The Academy switched from in-person to virtual in 2021, allowing for more participation from the public.
CV Water Counts was formed to focus on water conservation and education and is comprised of the following agencies: Coachella Valley Water District, Coachella Water Authority, Desert Water Agency, Indio Water Authority, Mission Springs Water District and Myoma Dunes Water Company.
