Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) has received a grant from the State Water Resources Control Board to increase its use of recycled water.
The $317,000 grant will help fund approximately 35% of a recycled water project in the Village of Heritage within the City of Fontana. The project will include a new recycled water pipeline to convert several large irrigated areas from potable (drinking) water to recycled water, eventually offsetting potable water usage of approximately 92 acre-feet per year, which is over 82,000 gallons per day.
“CVWD prides itself in providing a reliable water supply to the community,” commented CVWD Board President Randall Reed. “Integrating the use of recycled water helps limit water shortages in the future, increasing the Districts drought resiliency.”
Making recycled water available for landscape and industrial purposes allows CVWD to conserve its drinking water while also diversifying its water supply, ensuring they are not reliant on only one source of water.
The project is anticipated to be completed in 2023.
