East Valley celebrates completed upgrades at treatment facility

Earlier this month East Valley Water District (EVWD) held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the $4.2 million in upgrades at the Philip A. Disch – Plant 134 Surface Water Treatment Plant. The upgrade to Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) technology provides additional safety in the water treatment process at the facility.

Granular Activated Carbon is a proven technology to remove a wide range of contaminants from drinking water. The process is highly effective at capturing organic material using activated carbon to attract and adsorb contaminants as water flows through it.

“East Valley Water District recognizes the importance of investing in infrastructure and technology as part of our service to the community,” said Michael Moore, General Manager/CEO. “The GAC upgrade at Plant 134 is a critical investment to maximize the District’s ability to use surface water whenever it is available.”

According to EVWD, both Santa Ana River and State Water Project surface water treated at Plant 134, gather additional organic elements like dirt, mud, leaves, and other content that cause variations in their organic content, necessitating the project upgrade.

“Ensuring that our community has access to safe and clean drinking water is our top priority,” commented Phillip Goodrich, Board Chairman. “We are proud to see the upgrade completed at Plant 134 and the enhancement to the treatment process.”
