Glendale Water & Power Achieves 4% peak demand reduction for the second straight year

Opower the global leader in cloud-based software for the utility industry, today announced that for the second year in a row, Glendale Water & Power’s Behavioral Demand Response program achieved the highest reduction in peak demand of any opt-out behavioral-only DR program at scale in the country.

“Everyone at Glendale Water & Power was very happy with last year’s outstanding program results — both because we were able to use Opower’s software to meaningfully reduce demand, and because our customers loved being empowered with more control over their energy use,” said Steve Zurn, General Manager at Glendale Water & Power. “Seeing consistent results in 2015 gives us even more confidence that our investments in cutting edge technology are bringing real value to our business and our customers.”

For the second straight summer, Glendale Water & Power realized an average 4% peak demand reduction across three events in 2015, with savings reaching as high as 5%. In addition to achieving the highest demand reduction of any behavioral-only DR program, Glendale also saw the highest per-household savings. When surveyed, 80% of Glendale customers spoke positively about the program.

“In many ways, Glendale Water & Power perfectly exemplifies why we’re so excited about BDR at Opower,” said Opower CEO Dan Yates. “Since we launched our BDR solution in 2013, our persistent, reliable results have been making the case that our program has a permanent role to play in utility demand side management portfolios. Glendale’s consistent and high savings demonstrate the huge role BDR can play across the utility industry.”
