Rialto-based West Valley Water District (WVWD) has decided to refund a portion of its customers’ 2015 water payments. In addition, WVWD has rescinded their 2016 and 2017 rate increases that were approved in 2012.
Based on a financial study from 2017-2021, WVWD determined that the previously approved rate increases for 2016 and 2017 were unnecessary, and that payments made in 2015 could be returned to customers and the District would be in sound financial condition.
“After careful consideration, the Board of Directors by unanimous vote decided that rate increases scheduled for the final two years were unnecessary,” Clifford O. Young, Sr., president of the WVWD Board of Directors, said in a news release.
According to WVWD, the average rebate is around $100. The refund is based on length of time as a customer, consumption amount and how much was paid. Residents will receive their refund check by May 1.
The rate deduction is expected to save residents an estimated $9.7 million dollars over the next two years.
