BREAKING: senior water rights holders allowed to divert water

In mid-June, senior water rights holders were told there was not enough water to continue diverting water from the Sacramento and Feather River watersheds, as well as the Delta. This morning, the State Water Resources Control Board notified 238 senior water rights holders that water is now available for diversion.

Water shortage cutbacks remain in effect for senior water rights holders in the Yuba, American and San Joaquin River watersheds, as well as all junior water rights holders on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River watersheds and Delta.

The State Water Resources Control Board suggests all water rights holders keep record of their diversions. If there isn’t a significant supply of water, the board will have to enforce water curtailment based on which water rights a person has.
