Californians eager for water infrastructure

A recent study by the California Water Foundation (CWF) found that the California drought is concerning to residents across the state. CWF randomly surveyed 1,000 voters across the state for their opinion on water-related issues.

37 percent of those surveyed found that the lack of investment of infrastructure was to blame for the current drought, while 35 percent said inefficiency was to blame.

Voters, across party lines, would support a $1 per month increase in their water bill if the money were invested in improving water infrastructure. According to the survey, “a $2 monthly fee per household would raise more than $300 million in a year.”

“These results indicated significant public support for investing in long-term solutions to California’s water crisis,” California Water Foundation Executive Director Lester Snow said in a statement. “They are encouraging and suggest that California voters are ready and willing to support major and permanent changes in how California manages its waters.”

In addition to investing in water infrastructure, surveyed voters are far more likely to vote for a legislator if he or she is willing to support water reform.
