Wet & Wonderful: Celebrating Our Precious Water, an event hosted by Foothill Municipal Water District, will be held Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge. The event is open to the public and will include a series of speakers on a variety of topics including rain barrel basics, creating low water gardens and native plants for attracting pollinators and various wildlife. Children will enjoy the presentation “H2O, Where Did You Go” which addresses the importance of water in a musical theatrical-style performance.
A one-hour discussion on water supplies and the California WaterFix will feature Charley Wilson, executive director and CEO with the Southern California Water Committee. The California WaterFix is Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed upgrade to the state’s aging water system. The proposed plan features two tunnels to transport water underneath as opposed to through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta.

Shows That Teach, a Los Angeles based company that specializes in quality school assembly programs, brings a musical theatrical-style performance which addresses the value of water, the water cycle, how to conserve water, and much more. This program is especially suited for children in K-6 grade.
10:30 – 11:00am | Cindy Berglund, Rain Barrels International
In this Rain Barrel 101 class, learn rain barrel basics, including the benefits of using a rain barrel, how to install a rain barrel, and how to apply for rebates.
11am – noon | Charley Wilson, Southern California Water Committee
Charley Wilson of the Southern California Water Committee will lead a discussion on water supplies with a focus on California WaterFix. The WaterFix is a $15 billion plan proposed by Governor Brown and the CA Department of Water Resources to build two tunnels to carry fresh water under the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta.
1pm | Cassy Aoyagi, FormLA Landscaping
Join Cassy Aoyagi, Founder of FormLA Landscaping and President of the Theodore Payne Foundation, for a talk about creating lush and low water gardens, and a look at the Center Circle garden display she created for Descanso Gardens.
The family friendly event will include Hawaiian-inspired jazz ukulele throughout the day and special BBQ menu options offered by Patina Restaurant Group available for purchase. The day will also include a Mulch Giveaway from 7:30am – 12pm, rain barrel sales from 10am – 2pm and water agency information booths from 10am – 2pm. Participating water agencies will include Burbank Water & Power, Glendale Water & Power, Pasadena Water & Power, City of South Pasadena, Crescenta Valley Water District and Foothill Municipal Water District.
Admission for the day’s activities are: Children – $4.00; Seniors – $6.00; Adults – $9.00; Children under 5 years of age are free.
