The California drought has left many homeowners missing their lush, green lawn. Instead of ripping out their natural grass and replacing it with artificial turf, a new solution has arisen: painting lawns green.
“I needed to get people to try and look at it [lawn painting] again to sell it and I just needed to remind people what this house could be,” Jason Yang, a homeowner in Sacramento told CBS Sacramento. “That would cost a lot more just to have everything dug up and have rocks put in and to be perfectly honest, it’s not going to be like this forever.”
The paint used for the lawn is plant-based and 100% organic, making it safe for kids and pets. According to lawn painters, the paint lasts 2-3 months, depending on how frequently the grass is watered and mowed.
Because the dye is applied to already dead grass, homeowners do not have to worry about killing their lawn.
Pricing averages 25 cents to 35 cents per square foot.
