Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts honor 438 companies as “Good Corporate Citizens”

Certificates of Recognition have been sent to 438 companies for being “good corporate citizens” by the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. The designation is indicative of the companies having met their limits for wastewater discharge for at least a year, fulfilled all permit requirements and maintained their environmental equipment.

“The recipients of these awards are eager to work with the Sanitation Districts in its mission to protect the environment,” said Sam Bell, owner of Metal Surfaces, Inc., of Bell Gardens and chair of the Sanitation Districts’ Industry Advisory Council. “The award provides an incentive for Southern California industries in Los Angeles County to achieve consistent compliance with regulations, and save water and energy.”

Of the 438 companies receiving the 2016 “good corporate citizens” designation, 86 of them have received this recognition for more than five consecutive years. The Sanitation Districts’ Industry Advisory Council, an advisory group of 21 representatives from different industrial sectors, originated the idea for the Certificates of Recognition; the program is now in its 21st year. The Council and Sanitation Districts felt it was important that industries with good compliance records should be recognized.

“This Program acknowledges industries for working with local government and for helping our agency to maintain high standards and to successfully convert wastes into resources,” said Dave Snyder, head of the Sanitation Districts’ Industrial Waste Section.

Comprised of 24 independent special districts serving over 5.6 million people in 78 cities and the unincorporated territory within Los Angeles County, the Sanitation Districts protect public health and the environment through innovative and cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management. The Sanitation Districts convert waste into resources such as reclaimed water, energy and recycled materials.

“To protect public health and the environment and provide a high level of service, we require our industrial dischargers to meet all Federal and local standards,” remarked Grace Robinson Hyde, chief engineer and general manager of the Sanitation Districts. “The dischargers being recognized have been exemplary in consistently meeting these requirements. Their efforts help us to effectively operate our wastewater collection and treatment systems, which benefits all of our ratepayers.”

Hyde announced the certificate awardees at the meetings of the Sanitation Districts’ Boards of Directors. A full list of the 438 good corporate citizens can be found at: http://www.lacsd.org/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?blobid=13728.
