A new website, SaveWater.ca.gov, includes a form that allows individuals to anonymously report local “water wasters” in their communities. Examples of those who can be reported include homeowners with leaky sprinklers, neighbors who water more than the local water agency allows, and restaurants that automatically serve water to all customers.
When concerned citizens file a report to snitch on their water wasting peers, the complaints are automatically sent to the local water agency where the “offender” is located. It is then incumbent on the agency to take action. Users of the website can also send photos as evidence of the water waste being reported.
The website quietly went online on July 31.
