Northern California lake runs dry

The Mountain Meadow Reservoir has run dry after record low water levels. Dead fish lay where the lake once was. Because of the severity of the California drought, Pacific Gas & Electric, who own water rights to the reservoir, said they aren’t surprised it ran dry.

“It’s the situation we worked hard to avoid but the reality is we’re in a very serious drought, there’s also concerns about the fish downstream,” PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno told the Daily Mail.

According to PG&E, they stopped using the reservoir for water in March because water levels were extremely low. The company says they didn’t drain the lake.

The reservoir is expected to refill by the spring once snowfall and rain refill it. The downside: it won’t have the fish it just lost.
