Rate increases on the table for Milpitas

On Tuesday, the Milpitas City Council is expected to vote on a proposed water rate increase. The council heard the original proposal in early October.

Should the council pass the proposal, residents would see varying rate increases totally 57 percent over a period of time:

· Phase I: January 1, 2016 – 27 percent increase

· Phase II: July 1, 2016 – 30 percent increase

Residents who wish to voice their concerns about water rate increases are encouraged to write a formal letter and submit it to:

City Clerk
City of Milpitas

455 E. Calaveras Blvd.

Milpitas, CA 95035

Residents can also attend Tuesday’s council meeting, where they can make a formal comment.

Under 1996’s Proposition 218, the council would be prohibited from passing the proposed water rate increases if more than 50 percent of utility users in the city object to the increase.
