Water landscaping certification in the works

The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) is considering adopting a program that would educate landscapers on the proper watering techniques during the California drought.  Once the landscaper completes the program, they will receive certification stating they went through the informative program. One of the main points of the program would focus on the amount of water plants in varying parts of the desert need and how frequently.

Jessyca Fredrick, the cofounder of Water Wise Now, brought the proposal to the CVWD board. Water Wise Now provides ebooks, irrigation guides and worksheets to residents and business that are looking at conserving water.

“One of the local issues we face, in some parts of the Valley, we need 40 percent less water than other parts of the Valley, but our irrigation schedules don’t reflect that. So in some places we are over watering, other places we are under watering,” Frederick told CBS 2.

According to John Powell, president of CVWD, the board liked the idea and will look at a way of implementing a program so it benefits everyone all the way around.
