Yucaipa Valley residents asked to reduce water use by 15-20%

In response to ongoing prolonged drought conditions, Yucaipa Valley residents are being asked to reduce water consumption by as much as 20 percent.

Yucaipa Valley Water District’s Board of Directors voted to enact Stage 2 of their Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP), which requires residents to voluntarily reduce their water consumption by 15% to 20%.

Yucaipa Valley Water District’s WSCP has six stages. Stage 2 of the WSCP is enacted in the event of a threatened water supply shortage of up to 20%.

Yucaipa and Calimesa residents used an average of 186 gallons per day in 2020, but now according to the District more conservation is required as the District receives a large portion of drinking water from the State Water Project, specifically Lake Oroville in Northern California.

Lake Oroville is currently at 22% of capacity.
