Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) recently completed an 18-month project that brought a state-of-the-art sewer system to Temecula’s Wine Country, located in Riverside County.
The project is said to improve groundwater quality by removing the need for septic systems at the wineries. Groundwater contamination occurs throughout the basin when septic systems exceed their capacity.
“The completion of this project will benefit the groundwater quality of this region for generations to come,” said EMWD director Joseph Kuebler. “We are proud of the work of everyone involved who helped bring this valuable infrastructure to the community.”
The $14.4 million project was a public-private partnership. The County of Riverside and a fund that consisted of Wine Country property owners paid for the upgrades.
Now that the project is complete, wineries are expected to connect to the system in the coming months.
