New Eastside Water Treatment Facility on-line in Ontario

A new water treatment facility is now operational in Ontario and is poised to meet the increase in water demands from new homes on the southeast side of Chino. Although located in Ontario the facility will be devoted solely to meeting the city of Chino’s water needs.

The new complex is capable of pumping 3,500 gallons per minute, the equivalent of five million gallons per day, as an ion exchange treatment facility designed to remove nitrates from the water for domestic use. It features a groundwater transmission pipeline to the treatment facility and then pipeline transmission to South Chino. The Eastside Water Treatment Facility (EWTF) also includes a 500,000-gallon water storage reservoir, a separate 4-million-gallon storage reservoir and two pumping stations.

EWTF is the collaborative effort of the city of Chino and developers Lewis Management Corp. and LS College Park. LS College Park is a limited liability company comprised of developers Lennar Communities and Standard Pacific Homes. The city of Chino contributed $2 million of the $13 million needed to design and build the facility.

Initial plans for the EWTF include a second phase which will double the treatment capacity. However, no timeline has been set for a second phase. The build-out of the EWTF will depend on the additional homes to be built in both the College Park and The Preserve residential developments in southeast Chino.
