On Wednesday, the Senate voted against the EPA’s attempt at making more waterways fall under federal jurisdiction. The vote passed by simple majority with a 53-44 vote after Tuesday’s failed attempt to get the 60 votes required to fully repeal the regulation.
“I remain committed to bringing common-sense legislation back to the Senate floor to stop the rule in its tracks,” Sen. James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, told the Wall Street Journal. “Our nation’s farmers, ranchers, and private land owners should not have to suffer from a heavy-handed EPA while this rule is being overturned in the courts.”
President Obama is expected to veto the legislation. It is unlikely that Congress will have enough votes to override a veto.
