Kohler, the nation’s leading provider of kitchen and bathroom plumbing products, joined a network of businesses and organizations that make up the “Connect the Dots” campaign. The campaign focuses on bringing water solutions to California during a time of severe drought through public-private partnerships.
As their part of the “Connect the Dots” campaign, Kohler is working with retailers to promote water efficient bathroom fixtures and faucets. Products that are water efficient have a EPA WaterSense label, which encourages the use of water efficient plumbing products.
According to a study by Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), conducted earlier this year, less than 10 percent of toilets in California are water efficient. In order to be considered water efficient, a toilet must use 1.28 gallons per flush or less. That same study concluded that eight million of the state’s toilets use 3.5 million gallons per flush or more.
“Updating existing plumbing fixtures to more water-efficient models is one way Californians can take action towards current water use reduction goals and help their state save billions of gallons of water each year. Plus, California’s success in addressing the issue will serve as a model to other states that may face drought or other water issues in the coming years,” said Rob Zimmerman, executive channel manager of sustainability.
Zimmerman believes that the company’s management team has been extremely supportive of finding and developing water efficient technology.
“Management support of our water conservation effort has given us the freedom to allow our associates to do what they want to do and what they can do to find ways to meet and exceed customer expectations for product performance while conserving water,” Zimmerman said.
Kohler joins the following companies under the “Connect the Dots” campaign: The Coca-Cola Company, Driscoll’s, Gap Inc., General Mills, KB Home, MillerCoors, Levi Strauss & Co. , Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Sungevity, Symantec and The North Face.
