Annual water savvy landscape contest underway

The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) is now accepting applications for its annual Water Savvy Landscape Contest. The goal of the program is to promote outdoor water conservation through water wise landscaping by recognizing customers whose landscapes are both beautiful and water efficient. Up to four winners will receive a $250 gift card to a local nursery sponsored by Edison, a winning landscape yard sign, plus an invitation to be featured on a future CVWD Garden Tour and other recognition. The contest is open to CVWD customers and will run through April 30, 2023.

Landscapes will be judged based on set criteria: landscape attractiveness, design, plant selection, and method of irrigation. Overall natural resource conservation will be evaluated. Examples include water-efficient plants, permeable hardscapes and organic materials.

“Saving water is always important, especially outdoors where 60% of water consumption occurs,” stated CVWD Board President Randall James Reed. “The Landscape Contest gives CVWD the opportunity to highlight customers who are using water wisely in their landscapes, while also inspiring others to be more efficient. If you or your neighbors have a water-wise landscape, we encourage you to apply!”

CVWD is committed to assisting customers in improving outdoor water efficiency through programs like the Water Savvy Garden Tour, landscape retrofit programs, and water-efficient workshops. For more information visit the Water Savvy Landscape Contest Page or call (909) 987-2591.
